FM ADVENTURE: REMEMBERing THE TIME…

THE KING OF POP IS DEAD? Thats impossible….

I grew up to Michael Jackson’s every hit record. My parents got me the Thriller album on cassette tape when i was just rockin oshkosh bgosh and keds and i listened to it so much the cassette tape wore out. I used to watch the Moonwalker on VHS so many times the the VHS tape died. Everytime they died my family would have to get a new one. Michael Jackson was someone my whole family could appreciate together and his music brings back memories of the good times when my family was still together… we could all bump “BAD” or “Billie Jean” on roadtrips to Disneyland or all sit in front of the TV as a family and watch the Moonwalker Movie. MJ represents the only memories i might even have of my family EVER haha.

I’ve heard tracks where a line or 2 in a song dissed him and portrayed him negatively but i never fed into that. One day we were all on a roadtrip from a show we did at the Sundance Film Festival and stopped at a store to buy some cds for the trip… i ended up buying the gold cover re-release of the THRILLER ALBUM since i wanted some classic-all-time-hit inspiration and no one has more hits than MJ.

Pressed play.. and hit after hit, we was jammin in that car like we was in a karaoke studio haha… Right when the song “Thriller” came on i said to the fellas… “wouldn’t it be crazy if we did a song for fun about Michael Jackson.. but not the Mike you see on tv lately.. the good ol Mike that we grew up to… that THRILLER MIKE.” Everyone was down so a few weeks later we got in the studio and made a fun beat off the bass line from Thriller… and we all started remembering the good ol mj.

i remember i wrote my verse from the perspective of the way i felt when i used to listen to classic Michael Jackson cuts..

“Feel the beat in your stomach, put on a glove and love it
feel the the bass, intro outer space, moonwalk all over ya face
im priceless, my identity crisis, you dance? i dance the whitest
i got the moves to thrill ya, looks to kill ya, straight up like tequila”

and Prohgress and J-Splif wrote some sick verses using some of MJ’s hits…

“Deep breath and I’m ready for action, Dance Like Michael Jackson…
I Don’t Stop, cuz I’m the King Of Pop, spin around and i grab my crotch
Just move to the rhythm, I’m looking at the Man In The Mirror
and he’s looking right back, i got one thing to ask… Who’s Bad?
You can’t do it like me, break it down to the ABC’S
Bad to the bone, grab the phone, I’m a Smooth Criminal, You Are Not Alone.
It don’t matter if your Black Or White,
Everybody get down when I’m on the mic, and the party Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough
Cuz the FAR EAST MOVEMENT is DANGEROUS

It was probably the funnest and goofiest concept we could ever imagine… but MJ was THAT dope to us, so we hooked up with Quest Crew (winners of America’s Best Dance Crew) and Wong Fu Productions and Shuttershades and came up with a viral project for the web called DANCE LIKE MICHAEL JACKSON.

Its a true example of how real and crazy MJ’s influence was on people of all ages, all colors, all demographics… and you can hate on what you see in the news.. but you can’t hate on the music :)

June 25th, 2009 Michael Jackson passes away, but its also the day he lives forever in the clouds.

I don’t know (of) anyone who doesn’t enjoy his music. His footwork will always be the best in the business and his legacy will for sure live on. May he rest in peace…

I will miss MJ very much… Totally agree with Kev about not reflecting on MJ’s negatives, but on his influence in the Pop Culture.

I grew up listening to MJ’s Thriller too and killed all my tapes and videos of this amazing album.

It’s sad he passed away… But, I know he’s in a better place where he is at peace.

MJ was an icon not just to USA but the world. We never appreciate the person until they are gone. Thanks for inspiring everyone, both artists and fans. RIP.

When my parents first came to the US, the first CD they ever bought was Dangerous. The story is my dad heard Heal the World, and thats the only song he ever listened to when he put it on. And when i started dancin, MJ was my idol, cuz not everybody appreciated him with all the scandals and junk. But now when hes gone, everyone can get past the scandals, and appreciate his contributions to music. Thats why they call it Rest in Peace. The Man, the Inspiration, the Era, the Legend.

oh man i couldn’t believe that he actually died. I thought it was all a lie but i guess not. Although i did not grow up to listening his songs, i did like some of them.
He was awesome, and i did not care what people said about him. He was cool and he still will be

    RIP MJ
