FM ADVENTURE: MINNESOTA DAY 2- “FAMILY”
Day 2 of our trip to Minnesota for 2 shows…
After a good night’s sleep and almost 30 White Castle burgers… we woke up around 11 for our first show of the day and first show ever in Minnesota.
Heard a knock on our hotel door… and daym… another gift from the family
we’re going to rock these during the show.

The first show was for the Hmong New Years Festival at a huge venue called the River Center where some sports teams play

This place was CRACKIN….
Monica from the Bay Area FM Street Team is reppin!

The line to get in looked longer than a football field

All around were people dressed in traditional Hmong fits.. and Leena gave us a little history on what they rockin.

Back in the day the Hmong people were placed into slavery and wore locks and chains around they’re necks.. and they were such skilled metal workers that they flipped it and made the chains into jewelry around they’re neck… thats fresh.

They said people from all over the US fly in to Minnesota just to visit this festival, and over the few days that it runs over 100,000 people run thru.

There were people standing in a long line bouncing a ball back back and forth and we were wondering why…

We were told its an old “courting’ game… back in the days, the girls and guys were shy to talk to each other and go on dates since the parents are so strict, so they created this traditional game where a guy picks a girl and they bounce a ball back and fourth.. during that time they are able to ask each other questions and get to know each other to see if they are interested… thats sure safer than myspace pimpin haha.
The show went awesome… lovin the crowd at the festival.. thanks to the family that had signs up and rockin with us!

After the show we went to the merch/ Autograph table.. and the line was around 1.5 hrs long. All the Minnesota family was looking fresh in them FM x Shuttershades, FM x Orisue Lowridin Tees, DLMJ Tees and FM/FAR EAST MOVEMENT logo tees and bumpin them mp3’s, albums and mixtapes… Thank you for your support family.

and shouts to Hmoob Magazine.. thanks for the interview and feature!

The Hmong New Years Festival was amazing.. definitely hope they have us back next year.
Since we’re in Minnesota… we also heard about a mall that happened to be the biggest mall in America and maybe even in the world called “THE MALL OF AMERICA”. Thats a bold name.
We had to check it out…

Inside was HUGE… so big that some stores had 2 or 3 of the same store in the mall… like just incase you missed a footlocker on one side of the mall… you can find it on the others side as well hahha, and there was a gynormous amusement park inside with a few crazy roller coasters, a log-water ride, a 4 story skateboard that rolls back and fourth with people inside, and much more

i never wanted to grow up cuz i’m a toys-r-us kid… and always played with legos when i was younger, like last year…. so this place tripped me out…

Got a FETISH for dem kicks.
If this day didn’t seem action packed enough… we still had one more show at a local club and our soundcheck was at 7pm so we rushed over to the club. Minor sound problems with the mics but we said F it and with 2 working mics we had a blast. Thank you to all the family that came out to the show and represented loud and proud. It was fun meeting you all at the show.

after the show we were hungry again since we some beasts from the east… so Leena took us to a Chinese/Viet noodle house that was a pretty popular late night spot.. and the menu was off the hook… it was packed full of all kinds of items like KT Cafe in Alhambra… They had Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Thai and Japanese food all on one menu.. WOW
Spreading themselves out so thin like that… can they live up to the quality???? lets find out.
EATING FM – “THE NOODLE SPOT IN MINNESOTA”
There was so much good looking food on the menu we didn’t know what to order.. and that might have lead to a problem for Prohgress…..lol
Proh ordered a chicken and broccoli dish.. and a few minutes later he wanted to switch it to Korean Kalbi ribs… the waitress rolled her eyes and gave him this annoyed sigh.. which could lead to a spit glaze on the ribs and booger sprinkles on his rice.
I ordered the Hainan Chicken and fried rice which was incredible and came out fast

Also had to get some Kimchee so we could feel like we’re back in LA

J-Splif got a Japanese Shrimp fried rice … and you can see Virman is jockin Jae-Z.

Leena got a Thom Yum Kai (thai sour soup) and Monica got egg noodle soup.. both looked legit

and heres where the drama begins….
I get my food, Jae and monica get they’re food… 10 minutes later Leena and Virman get they’re food… Proh waits…. we all start eating cuz we can’t wait for 1 person.
Virman finishes his food. Proh still no food.
J-splif finishes his food.. Proh still no food.
Me and Monica and Leena finish our food…. Proh still no food.
Then finally… like a slowmotion glorious part in a movie… the waitress comes out with Prohgress’s Split glazed kalbi ribs.

Proh is pissed but he’s too hungry to trip so he’s lovin every bite. And he noticed the ribs were cold.. which meant that they must have left them sitting there for a little bit.. hahhahaa. (That’s what happens when you hate on FATBURGER.)
Besides that drama.. the food was excellent and i would recommend it to anyone that visits Minnesota

EATING FM Rating system:
***3 Fingers up - MUST EAT.. crave for it.. amazing food. If you dont try it your missing out on life…

* 1 Finger up – Kinda wish i didnt eat there or order what i ordered … but i ate it and now im full.
- Middle Finger up – i threw it away while eating it… if i had a brick i’d throw it through the window.. and if i had lighter fluid and a lighter.. i’d burn that mutha down…

What WE Thought:
Restaurant: Chinese Noodle Spot (forgot the Name)
Location: Minnesota, near Saint Paul
Price Range: The menu ranged from $7 dishes to $15 dishes… thank you to Leena for the meal! ![]()
We recommend: Hainan Chicken and fried rice, Thom Yum Khai Soup, Kalbi Ribs as long as you order them on time.
Service: Fairly rude and food takes a while.
Rating: – **2 FINGERS UP.
-would have been a 3 fingers up if the waitress was cooler.
———————————-
After our last meal….
This was a perfect end to a long day in Minnesota.. but to cap it all off, right when we step out of the restaurant look what we see…
SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Minnesota.. FM IS NOW ON YOUR DIAL.

Got back to the hotel for a few hours of sleep cuz we had to be at the airport by 6:30am or so.. and you wouldn’t believe the surprise we saw at the air port…
THE MINNESOTA FM STREET TEAM!!!…. at 6:30am? WOW

And the blessed us with a few gifts before our flight… daym we’re speachlesss…

I got a fetish for my own custom hoodie… That’s sooooo insanely awesome.

and if all that wasn’t already amazing enough… they topped it off with a WHITE CASTLE BURGER CRAVE CASE… 30 delicious bit size pieces of heaven to take home with us and eat on the plane.

3 fingers up ALL DAY…

Thank you so much to our new Minnesota family for making this trip one we will never forget. All of your amazing gifts will be in our office and recording studio so yall will always have a place in LA.

I had a great time too! spending a weekend with my friends and FM was so much fun.
Mall of America was WOW~ that place is huge!
the festival was so great and b4 coming to MN i had minimal knowledge about Hmongs and this trip was also educational xD
the performance were great! the line for autographs was almost never ending…so many excited fans, it was really great to be a part of it.
the food was good…waiting for Proh’s food was funny but we got some good conversations goin while we waited.
SNOW on the last night was a perfect way to end the trip…but dayyymmm it was COLD. Virman and throwing snow to Kev & Proh was funny, i have a lil video clip of it.
The FANS were amazing! thank you for showing mad love for FM. I’m glad to meet most of you!
LEENA is the BEST! She really wanted to bring FM to MN as positive influence to the youths in the Asian American community in MN, she did this all for her ‘kids’. She’s really amazing. Thank you Leena!
i’ll work on my own blog post so keep an eye out for it. ^^
DANG… Can’t beleive all has been done and gone… Thank You to ALL, MN Street Team, K-Club, Hmoob Teen Magazine, My Family Members, Monica & most of all… FM for letting me keep an adolescent promised and dream alive… “To be the First to introduce Asian American Hip-Hop Mainstream Artists to the MN Hmong Community.” MAN THAT TOTALLY ROCK =D
To hear and see FM’s reaction along with the teens was AWESOME! This was really AN EXCHANGE of the Far*East Movement!!!
There were a lot of doubts at first when I started this… Feeling insecure and not having all the ins and outs. However, something in me kept saying that this is the right thing to do and for me to trust and make way… Can you believe it all started with a FORTUNE COOKIE ^^
Wow, looking back and reading Kev’s blog just amazes me how everything came together beautifully from the time I went to pick up FM to the time they left. I’m very happy to hear and know both parties had a KICKIN GREAT TIME!
MONICA – YOU IS THE SHIZ, GURL!!! A TRUE TO THE RIM STREET TEAM ICON! I can’t say it enough, but it was meant to be for the both of us to meet! Look at all the wonders we’ve done so far ^^ *HUGS*
Kev – Sharing my people’s history and culture here is AWESOME! Thanks for REPPIN the HMONGs! You GUYS are FAMILY and always remember you have a HOME in MN! The noodle joint is call, HONG KONG NOODLES. Located in the heart of the University of MN, home of the GOLDEN GOPHERS! Yeh… I agree with your rating of the place… However, I would of given the middle finger to the service though ^^ And eating Kalbi in MN isn’t the same as in K-Town, right Proh… CUZ K-TOWN BE REPPIN KOREAN BBQ ALL THE WWWAAAYYYY!!!
FM are all very humble GUYS ^^ Love the jokes, debates, and small talks during the rides. This visit is not only going to FM’s history in the making… But the MN Hmongs too!
Thanks to CATCH MUSIC GROUP and again to FM for the love… Please add St. Paul, MN to your list of tour dates
Definitely looking forward to another event in the making soon!
