FM ADVENTURE: FM X EPIK HIGH TOUR FOOD REVIEW!
Kev Nish’s version of the tour at MTV IGGY

Before we eat.. we must put in WORK… but read further for THE BATTLE OF THE DOGS – SEATTLE Vs NEW YORK.

MAN O MAN, The show in New York City at the Fillmore, Irving Plaza, was INSANE. It was completely sold out, maybe even over sold, and the heat was so thick you could pinch it with your fingers… probably 100 degrees inside if not more.

photos by Phil Chang

Backstage right before the show… about to rock out.

Being that we’re from the west coast, theres always a little extra nervous-ness for us when performing in NYC since the music taste and scene is so different from LA. Even the playlist on radio is waaaay different… but for this show, we didn’t change our set to what we think would fit the east coast flavor…

we just decided to GO for it…

and New York City was ROCKIN. Nuthin but LOVE. this vid clip sums up the live-ness of the show…

Even tho people were hot, almost near fainting and dehydrated, the crowd partied harder than almost any city we’ve been to and the crowd’s energy had us waaay pumped up on stage through the grueling temperature… kev even fought thru his fever.

OUR TIME MACHINE HAS LANDED ON STAGE…the hands up are CRAZY

FM, EPIK HIGH and the Map The Soul Team!

BIG thank you to everyone in NYC that came out to represent FM.. even had some serious fam in the industry reppin with 3 fingers up… Shouts to Mikey Fresh!, Cat from Motown, Toshi, Nigel, Grey, LS, MTV IGGY fam, Allkpop, Asiance, Soompi, Seoulbeats, Mia and all the blogs and sites from NYC that came out to rep… yall are FAM! (my bad if i forgot any names in here, super braindead from this crazy trip)

Me n Blaze Wong

Check out the homie Blaze Wong from Cornerstone/1200Squad on the twitter!

and the woman that runs thangs out in the big apple.. MISS INFO!

Miss Info and Phil Chang… NYC FM FAMILIA.

Done putting in work for the night.

TIME FOR THE CRAZY TOUR FOOD REVIEW…

Headed to the after party at Hiro Ballroom and partied like a manic with the fam out there, where i had my first experience at Grey’s Papaya. People been tellin us about Grey’s since our first trip to NY and i’ve been dying to try it. Its a world famous hot dog stand that even got its own WIKI.

The Grey’s Papaya Classic duo… with kraut and grilled onions.

J-Splif is drooling… look very very closely…

Now we’ll get back to them dogs later… Seattle has a special dog of their own and i think its worth a “Battle Of The Dogs”.  Still hungry, so the NY homies took us to a chicken-n-rice stand.. thats, well… chicken… and.. rice… and pretty tasty.

Its doesn’t beat out the dogs.. but it’ll do when your extra hungry at 3am.

Now we noticed something VERY VERY weird in New York.. it might even be a conspiracy. In California, there are many types of bottled water just like there are many types of soda and juice brands.. we have Arrowhead, Dasani, Voss, Fiji, Nestle, and much much more. In every store and stand in New York City, the only brand of bottled water we saw.. THE ONLY BRAND.. is Poland Spring?

Now isnt there supposed to be a law that says there can be no monopoly on an industry??? Why is there only 1 brand of bottled water in New York??? and we dont get this brand in Cali.

I’ve heard that Rockafeller built an aqueduct back in the day that imports the cleanest water to NY residents.. so clean you can drink the tap water, so maybe to make up the cost of keeping up the duct they only let the governement bottle water from their spring and sell it? just a theory… if anyone knows drop it in the comments!

and we are beasts from the east, hungry beasts.. and still not satisfied after a crazy show and crazy after party, we needed 1 more signature NEW YORK FOOD…

NY PIZZA… hit up a late night joint called 33 Slices.

The chicken pizza was 3 fingers up.. A-OK ALL DAY

Now im more stuffed than a Turkey, that has to be the most food i’ve ever eaten in 1 day.. but i sweated and worked harder on that stage than EVER too.. so it equals out haha.

Ended up not sleeping since we had an early flight to Seattle, so we got back to the hotel at 5am.. got our baggage packed in 15 minutes and headed out to the airport… fairwell NYC and thanks for an unforgettable trip

Landed around 1pm in beautiful Seattle…

FM, Epik High, Myk, Kero One, Dumb and the crew have all been cruising around in these tourist style buses haha this is how we roll.

Even tho we ate Grey’s Papaya, New York Pizza and a chicken and rice cart outside a club last night.. it was 1pm in the afternoon and was starving again, for some reason food always taste’s better on the road. Steve and Kevin from the Seattle organizing team led us to a trendy ramen spot in Capitol Hill called Boom Noodle.

I’ve been cravin Korean food and we all ended up ordering the kimchee ramen.. the waitress says “i hope you like spicy… its pretty spicy”… c’mon now.. IM KOREAN.. this is childs play haha

It was tasty.. but doesnt beat a bowl of Koreatown ramen with egg and cheese. 2 fingers up.. barely.

Look what the FM Street Team and us found around newstands in Seattle! NW Asian Weekly feature on the FAR EAST MOVEMENT!

Read the full interview HERE

Our homegirl and tour organizer/mom Alice Han and Mithra Jin from Epik High wanted to feel what it was like to take a trip to the future… so we let them.. and i don’t think they like what the future looked like..

We got over to the King Cat Theater which sold out in only hours after tickets were posted online and we saw a crazy line formed around the block. There was a ton of problems getting a good soundcheck due to time constraints and the sound people not being the most professional bunch of people we’ve come across during the whole tour, but we’re all professionals so we deal with it how we can and make the most of it. Headed backstage to start going over our set.. crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s.

Our keyboardist and creator of MY NINJA! Tee shirts, PETER ROCKS.. and this dude kinda does rock.

and DJ Virman busts out with a secret weapon…

argue-ably the freshest DJ on the planet.. he got his hands on one of the most rare kicks out now:

THE BLACK NIKE AIR YEEZY’S

Man, the black Yeezy’s look sooo clean on stage

it was our first time performing in Seattle in over 3 or 4 years… and the crowd was awesome.. THANK YOU SEATTLE FOR ROCKIN AND REPPIN THE FAR EAST MOVEMENT

Seattle don’t stop till they call the cops… THEY GET LIVE.

The show was incredible, we came up on stage with Epik High for the last song of the tour and it was a great way to end an awesome tour. Really got a chance to bond with everyone involved on the tour and it was memories in different cities that we’ll all never forget.

Thank you to Epik High (Tablo, Mithra, Tukutz), Alice Han, Bernie, Allen of Map The Soul, CGN Live, Plan C, Verizon and everyone that helped organize and put this tour together. It was definitely a success, with every city sold out and live.

Shouts to MYK, Kero One, Vince, Dumbfounded, Asher, Beatbox DG, and Peter Rocks.. it was awesome rockin crowds with yall.

And Big Thank you to 4C The Power and the Norcal and Minnesota FM Street Teams for surprising us by showing up at ALL the cities to represent FM. Yall are paving the way!

Now…

After the rockin show.. we celebrated by trying Seattle’s Secret:

THE SEATTLE CREAM CHEESE BAGEL DOG.

Kevin Park from Seattle reppin FM.. and lettin us know how good these hot dogs are.. but do they beat Grey’s Papaya Hot Dogs?

Tablo from Epik High and Allen of Map The Soul ready to make the decision of the Battle Of The Dogs..

Show Organizer, Steve and Mithra from Epik High… first bite… alriiiiiiight.

DJ Tukutz from Epik High… downin it.

THE DOG CHALLENGE…

GREYS PAPAYA HOT DOG:
Nor
mal dog and bun, with grilled onions, kraut, mayo, and ketchup if you want it

SEATTLE CREAM CHEESE BAGEL DOG: Hot Dog on a Bagel Bun, with grilled onions, cream cheese, relish, and ketchup and mustard

FM and Epik High have both placed the votes..

and the winner goes to…

SEATTLE’S CREAM CHEESE BAGEL HOT DOG

What a way to celebrate the finish to a great tour….

FULL AND BEAT DOWN TIRED.

NOW BACK TO LA.. HOME SWEET HOME.

I didnt get a chance to try that Seattle Cream Cheese Bagel Dog, but i’ve tried the Gray’s Papaya Hot dog when I was in NY, those hotdogs were nasty…idk what ppl have been raving about those stupid gray’s papaya hotdogs. the hotdog street vendors had better tasting ones.
Anyways, i cant believe its all over…the Map The Soul Tour aka ‘Epik Movement’ tour definitely brought about many many memories for me and the FM street team. It was a whole lot of fun, i’d do it all again in a heartbeat…even the ‘battle wounds/scars’ are worth it. Thank you guys soooo much and I’m very very proud of you.

Always reppin the 3 Fingers Up!

dude, gray’s papaya suuuucks. that spot was the biggest disappointment in new york ever. give me a $1.50 costco hot dog over that slop any day… but the true king of dogs are the LA dirty dogs. pig wrapped in more pig = win.

  16. aino said on May 28th, 2009 at 10:13 pm:

YAY Seattle! Awesome performance guys! And I waited all night for “Girls on the Dance Floor”…you guys should have gone to Samurai Noodle instead of Boom Noodle…that place is gross :(

  17. noubie said on May 29th, 2009 at 6:40 am:

man the NYC was crazy HOT!!! never been that HOT before in just one place!! lol!! ya killed it in NYC!!! so worth going up there!!! MN loving ya!!!

nyc show was crazy. i was seriously at the verge of fainting. loved you guys<3

AHAHA poland spring. nyc does sell other brands of water like smart water, aquafina and etc but poland spring is definitely the brand that’s sold everywhere. i’m pretty sure all street vendors sell poland. no idea why.

and gray’s papaya is disgusting. did not know they had such a great reputation with tourists. their food is pretty disgusting. so are all the other papaya shet. ahh
