EATING FM – “S’MORES”

Normally, when you eat S’mores you’re outside under the stars sitting around a campfire with the homies burning marshmellows.. but our home girl YESI ORTIZ, who’s the mid-day host on Power 106, showed us a whole new place and way to grub down on the campfire dessert.

She’s been telling us about this spot called Gyu Kaku in Pasadena.. its like Korean bbq but with a Japanese twist and Yesi said its one of her favorite places to eat so we had to see what the hype is all about.

A little about Yesi, she’s one of the hardest working people we’ve met in the game.. and one of the coolest too. About 2 years ago when we had our first ever song on the radio called “You’ve Got A Friend” with Lil Rob and Baby Bash, she gave us our first ever major radio interview on Power 106 at the New @ 2 Show with Felli Fel ( Check interview here) and has also introduced us at the first ever International Secret Agents Concert in San Gabriel. She’s also recently featured our song “GIRLS ON THE DANCE FLOOR” on her newest mixtape called HOLD MY PURSE Vol 2. We’ve been blessed to have her support and we’ve been family ever since. 1 thing people might not know about her… not only does she host on Power 106 and clubs all over So-cal but she also should win the ‘Auntie/Super-mom of the year award’ taking care of 7 awesome kids while balancing the entertainment industry.. someone really needs to make a show on her for reals.. no hate to jon and kate but we’d rather see yesi’s grind haha.

Since this is Yesi’s favorite spot… She did the ordering. We got the super group combo called the “SHOGUN” which brings out all kinds of goodies. When eating here i suggest you have a few hours because they bring all the dishes out slowly, and they bring out hella dishes. Perfect dinner spot to catch up with friends.

Time for a massive meal.. 7 COURSES … Come check out the dishes

Course #1: For starters, they brought us a cool lil salad with mustard miso dressing and some edamame… ok, nice light way to set it off.

Course #2: Then they dropped off some fried rice, korean style… with all kinds of goods in it in a hot stone pot that makes the rice crispy.. DAYM GOOD… still hungry.

DJ VIRMAN is burning the roof of his mouth.

Course #3 and 4: Next up was a korean style spicy tofu soup which was also good and a garlic-spinach mix that was wrapped in tin-foil.. when you put it on the grill it cooks and marinates. I’m not full yet, but not hungry as i once was.. whens the bbq coming out??

Red = Spicy.

Course #5: Finally.. what we’re all here for… carnivore time… lets get to bbq-ing.
They really bring you every type of meat you can think of.. Chicken, Pork bellies (bacon), Filet Mignon, Kalbi ribs, bulgogi beef (marinated shredded meat), and marinated steak

Shoot.. why did we eat all them filler dishes before the main course..

when cooking your own meat, make sure to cook it well.. PINK means “COOK MORE”… sometimes when you’re hungry and cooking meat on the grill with a bunch of other people you’re just trying to grab a piece before someone else does and you might not realize that the meat is undercooked, especially when sitting at a table next to the big homies haha. One time we went to a Korean BBQ spot in Ktown and J-Splif was pretty hungry.. so he just started grabbin mad pieces of pork off the grill that didn’t look close to crispy bacon yet, but to his hungry eyes it looked ok. We noticed he was sweating like crazy when he walked outside and was quiet in the car ride home. Then he says.. “PULL OVER! NOW!!!!!!!!” and yacks all over the sidewalk. He was sick the whole rest of the night.. that’s a lesson i’ve learned without making that mistake myself.. thank you j-splif. lol

Course #6: Now we’re all completely stuffed… no more coarses please…. PLEASE.

But Yesi told us the best is still to come… her favorite dish there.. crispy garlic noodles. She def knows what she’s talking about cuz 1 bite of these and i got my appetite right back… some of the best noodles i’ve had in a minute. The pot makes the noodles around the bowl all crispy. BREATH ON ‘HUMMMMMMMMMM’.

and now… after i physically cannot eat 1 more bite of anything or i will pop like that blueberry kid in willy wonka… the waitress brings out the finale, something i never imagined eating at a japanese bbq spot…

Course #7: THE GYU-KAKU S’MORES.

Last up to bat.. a plate of marshmellows, chocolate pieces and graham crackers.

Roast the marshmellow over the hot coal bbq then drop it on a piece of chocolate and smash together between 2 graham crackers and ITS ON.

The most painful yet tastiest bite of Prohgress’s life…
